Berkeley Lake Watershed - Development PDF Print E-mail
Written by Steve Seitz
September 2009

This overview is intended to distribute some basic facts on development activities along Peachtree Industrial Blvd (PIB) which are adjacent to our community's streams, ponds and lake also known as "state waters."

PIB Development Facts:
  • PIB Development Parcel 6-268-043 is not in the City of Berkeley Lake
  • Gwinnett County is the "Issuing Authority" for permits and is responsible for site inspections and enforcement.
  • GPs Enterprises is the owner of this property and primary developer.
  • PIB Development LLC / Permit # RZC2007-00054
  • BLHA and the Mayor requested a performance bond for development activities. Gwinnett County did not support or pursue this effort.
  • BLHA documented and presented the high risks associated with this site to Gwinnett County and developer.

Summer has returned — let's have some FUN!!! By the time you are reading this newsletter, we would have held two time-honored events at the lake. First, the "Spring Fling", Berkeley Lake Homeowner Association's (BLHA) quarterly meeting in the picnic area and second, a "BLFF" (Berkeley Lake Fantastic Friday) at the beach. These events are focused at renewing friendships and meeting new neighbors along with providing an update on the management of Berkeley Lake, adjacent BLHA facilities and the general state of our homeowner association. Reminder... all Berkeley Lake residents are eligible to become members of BLHA and have access to the lake, beach and picnic facilities. Save $$$ and time this summer... come to the beach at Berkeley Lake. We have been expanding on the improvements to our picnic and beach facilities as we discussed during our annual meeting in January. These improvements will contribute to the fun you and your family can have by taking a very short trip (less than 5 minutes!!!) to the beach. As gas prices and temperatures increase this summer, you will be glad to know the beach at Berkeley Lake will be here to offer cool refreshing waters and ample shade to lounge around in. There are even a few trees to tie up a hammock and take a peaceful afternoon nap. Guys and Gals... escape the "honey do" list and come to the beach.

Fish Management - "Catch & Remove" PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dudley Simpson
June 2009

Over the past several years, BLHA has been striving to improve the balance of fish species in our lake. As reported previously, there is an over population of bass and the consensus is to decrease the current level. This over population results in an increasing number of smaller bass with an insufficient food supply. As in past years, we are working with our local (members) anglers to catch and remove any bass under 15". In addition, we have taken steps to remove bass by alternative means. On May 4, our lake management company, Foster Pond and Lake Pond Management, removed 225 bass. Our goal this year is to remove in excess of 1,500 bass.

With the bass over population, the Board's recommendation is to defer any fish stocking activities this year. If we are successful in meeting our goals, we will plan to do stocking next year. Presently our stocking plan will include bluegills and grass carp.

May 2009

The weatherman was wrong. There were no thunder showers or so much as a drizzle to dampen the BLHA May 16th Spring Event. Cadillac Tattoo opened with classic baseball warm-up music for a night celebrating the Gwinnett Braves. Traditional ballpark cuisine made all the fans happy. Another great night at the ballpark BLHA picnic area!

March 2009 President's Message PDF Print E-mail

March 2009

Members and Volunteers...thank you. With your assistance we achieved many of our 2008 goals. We completed several projects and, thanks to your contribution of dues and time volunteered, we ended the year with a break-even budget. Our objective to improve the facilities will continue to be discussed with members and we plan to use this year to survey our members in order to assess your interests and ensure these are in alignment with any conceptual long-term plans.

I would like to extend my thanks to last year's Board members for their support and dedication to our community, Mickey Merkel, Lesley Pendleton, Tom McDonald, George Kaffezakis, Todd Coker, Eileen Barnes, Sue Carlson and Phil Gilbert. These individuals and many others in our city made 2008 a very memorable year for the Berkeley Lake Homeowners Association (BLHA).
