The following basic rules governing the lake and the recreation areas are for the protection of BLHA members and our assets. Security gates at the chapel and beach open at 9:00am and close at dusk. Use of the lake, beach area and picnic grounds are limited to the members of the Association (BLHA) and their guests. Simply being a resident of the City of Berkeley Lake does not entitle you to the use of these areas. BLHA membership fees are due January 1st and are considered late after March 31st. A late payment fee will apply for payments postmarked after March 31st. A guest using BLHA property must be accompanied by a member or have a current BLHA Guest Pass on their person. The number of guests is limited to ten when accompanied by a member. See below for special rules governing large groups. Guest passes are issued to members and are limited to two passes per family. Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests. Security is provided at the beach area by fences & gates only. There is NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY. Children must be accompanied by an adult and swimming is at your own risk. Vehicles parked on BLHA property must display a current BLHA parking decal. The decal should be displayed on the lower left corner of the rear window. Parking in front of the beach entrance gates is for loading and unloading purposes only (<10 minutes). Vehicles parked illegally will be subject to towing at owners expense. Vehicles, trailers or boats may not be parked on BLHA property. However, a resident may choose to moor or dock their craft(s) on the lake, directly adjacent to their own private property. No object may be permanently moored in Lake Berkeley more than 25 feet from the shoreline. Any item that is temporarily moored in the lake must be moved to the shore by sunset to avoid navigational hazards which could cause injury or damage. Property owners making repairs (impacting shoreline) must contact the BLHA Board in writing to inform of changes being planned. Shoreline can not be extended into the lake. The following are strictly forbidden on BLHA property (the beach, the dock and the picnic grounds): excessive noise, glass containers, pets, and littering. Fires are not permitted - except in approved barbecue grills, and/or the barbecue pit at the picnic grounds. All watercraft must be registered with BLHA, and MUST display a BLHA registration decal and number on both sides of the watercraft. Contact the BLHA member in charge of watercraft registration to register a watercraft and obtain the decals. Canoes, paddle boats and kayaks are considered watercraft and must be registered. Inflatable devices are not considered watercraft unless they are motorized. Registration will only be issued for watercraft owned by current members of BLHA or deed covenant property owners. The registration fee is $25 and is not transferable. If a watercraft is obtained which was previously registered with BLHA, the BLHA member in charge must be informed and an additional $25 fee is due. If a registered watercraft is sold, the {ln:Board 'BLHA member' in charge of boat registration should be notified in order to update BLHA records. Deed covenant property owners who are not BLHA members are limited to 5 horsepower motors by their own deed covenants – BLHA reserves the right to enforce those covenants. Pontoon boat dimensions can not exceed 10' by 28'. Any other motorized boats may not exceed 18 feet in length. Lake Berkeley is a no-wake lake. The maximum speed permitted on the lake is 5 MPH or slower, as necessary to insure NO WAKE at all times. The BLHA complies with the Coast Guard requirements of at least one Coast Guard approved life preserver for each occupant of the boat at all times when operating on the lake. All boats with a gas engine must have a marine type fire extinguisher. Towing persons or objects behind a watercraft is prohibited. The only exception is the towing of a boat in distress. Upon violation of any of these rules, the following steps will be taken: 1st Occurrence - Written or Verbal notice sent to member and recorded in BLHA Meeting Minutes. 2nd Occurrence - Written notice sent to member and recorded in BLHA Meeting Minutes. Member attendance at the next monthly may be requested. BLHA privileges may be restricted. 3rd Occurrence - Written notice sent to member and recorded in BLHA Meeting Minutes. Member attendance at the next monthly will be required. BLHA privileges may be restricted or revoked. Please avoid hosting large groups of non-BLHA members at the beach – especially on weekends and holidays. Members are limited to 10 guests per member. If you intend to host more than 10 guests, please reserve the picnic grounds for this purpose. The BLHA picnic grounds can be reserved for large events. The chapel and/or the bathrooms can also be rented. To make a reservation, contact the chapel and picnic rental coordinator. Reserving the picnic grounds does not guarantee exclusive use. Other BLHA members can not be denied access during your reserved event. Reservations may require a security/clean-up deposit. Persons reserving the facilities are responsible for any damage and for cleaning the facilities prior to leaving the premises. If the facilities are damaged or require cleaning after a reservation, the deposit may be forfeit. |
